FONEMZ® Plus
Sound Awareness to Reading
• A bridge to associate letters with sounds.
• An evidenced-based practice.
• Can be used with all ages, abilities and disabilities.
Students rapidly learn that the different colors and shapes of FONEMZ® represent the specific sounds of speech. This skill will demonstrate itself by the child sounding out words and "building" them using FONEMZ. At this point, the child is ready to be introduced to FONEMZ® Plus. These are an additional teaching tool included in the FONEMZ® Kit. FONEMZ® Plus are two inch squares that have one of the vowel or consonant FONEMZ® pictured on each. At the top of each card is typed the Roman Alphabet symbol that is most often associated with the phoneme each of the FONEMZ® represents. These are great to use with children who have more advanced auditory and visual association skills. Because of their size, they are perfect to use with a picture exchange communication system. They are currently being utilized in association with other phonics based reading programs.
Here is an example of the FONEMZ® Plus card for the consonant sound in the word "pop":

The enthusiasm she demonstrates as a result of her success with this reading activity, is real. She can't wait to continue with the activity.
