Magnet FONEMZ®
• They can be used in many of the same ways and in many of the same types of activities as the
Felt and Fun FONEMZ.
• They can be easily held upright to place in proximity to the face while the sound is being produced.
• They can be used with magnetic pictures and objects that are readily available from many distributors.
• They can be associated with pictures, Apps and object by initial, medial and ending sounds.
• They can be compared for likenesses and differences.
• They can be placed lineally to emulate a sequence of sounds in a word.
• Perfect to use on the small or large metal white boards.
• Perfect for hospital use. They can be easily sanitized.
Magnet FONEMZ® can be used to demonstrate the "Vowel Circle" or vowel quadrilateral,
which is a comparison of each vowel to other vowels for jaw height and mouth shape. This preschooler, who is deaf, uses a puppet with the Vowel Circle, to solidify his memory of how the jaw height and mouth shape of vowels are different from eachother.

Once a child has mastered using Magnet FONEMZ to build a word
with little to no prompting, they too can be used in conjunction with the FONZABET or FONEMZ Plus to transition to associating with the letters of the alphabet for spelling and reading activities.
In this video, a four year old preschool girl who is hard-of-hearing, learns to sound out words because she has developed strong phonemic awareness using Magnet FONEMZ. She then demonstrates that she can determine what letters make the word using the FONZABET. From that she shows how she can spell, read and write words.
Look at her face at the end! You can she has developed a strong self-concept of herself
as a "speller", a "writer" and a "reader". This is huge!
Older students:
Middle and High School students, can experience autonomy by controlling the sounds, as this girl is doing during a warm up exercise in an articulation session. Her target sounds in these instances were /s/ and /z/.
She was combining them with various vowels of her choosing. Self-directed, self-reflective instruction facilitates student ownership of goals and the solidifies learning. This improves carry-over into real world situations.
