6. FONZABET - Orthographic Combinations
The FONZABET is a file of cards with most possible letter combinations for each phoneme, done in the same color of the FONEMZ that depicts that sound. In other words, the actual letters are the same color as the FONEMZ that they represent. Most phonemes/FONEMZ have more than one possible letter combination that makes that sound. The FONZABET consists of over 250 letter combinations. Once the student can build words with the FONEMZ volitionally, they have demonstrated that they can recognize the FONEMZ combinations as specific words.
The FONZABET is a bridge between phonemic awareness and actual reading. By combining the colored letters and sounds, learners can demonstrate sound recognition, alphabet recognition, and begin spelling and reading of words. Use with FONEMZ first. (FONEMZ and pictures not included)
